State Level Interventions
In the last few years the intervention of Jodo Gyan with government schools has extended. In the last decade, the discussion to bring meaningful changes in mathematics curriculum and pedagogical processes for government schools children has been initiated through workshops / interaction with government school teachers, Anganwadi teachers, other government institutions as SCERTs, DIETs. This includes many states of India such as Chhattisgarh, Orissa, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Bihar, MCD, NDMC schools of Delhi, all the Army schools through FDRC.
A major step in this direction took place in 2013, when Jodo Gyan started a pilot project with 481 government schools of Patiala district, Punjab. This is a long duration and intense project involving the introduction of new pedagogic practices into Classes 1 and 2. The MoU signed with the Punjab government extended this effort to cover all the 7624 schools of Punjab. In 2014 the earlier pilot programme in Meghalaya got extended in all 4 districts with the support of SSA. In 2016 a programme was initiated in Jammu and Kashmir involving 120 primary schools under the aegis of UNICEF.
In 2015 another significant initiative started as a pilot project under the Department of Education, Government of Delhi in which we are engaged with developing and implementing primary school mathematics curriculum from grade 1 to Grade 5. Now this programme has been extended to all the 451 Sarvodaya schools. Currently, Jodo Gyan is also working with the government of Kerala and Sikkim.
All these programmes focus on capacity building of resource persons for sustainable quality improvement by connecting to actual classroom practices. Hands-on, in-situ experiences in the classrooms through demonstration/observation and regular interaction with teachers are the key components of these interventions.
